Alaska's Back Country Inn is the perfect way to experience all of Alaska's natural beauty and incredible wilderness.
The property has been in our family for decades. Like Port Alsworth, it is a private treasure unlike any other place in America.
Below you'll find information about the accommodation and what's included in the price. Don't hesitate to reach out to us via the contact form if you have any questions about your stay.
Enjoy the serenity and wonder of Lake Clark.
Refrigerator, freezer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and oven/stove. Heated floors, wifi access (limited), shared grill and patio area, shared firepit on the cliff overlooking the lake and mountain range, 2 shared kayaks.
Upon arrival, you will find your kitchen stocked with breakfast items. Depending on availability, this may include things like sourdough bread, muffins, cereals, bagels, oatmeal, fresh fruit, milk (almond/oatmilk available upon request), and eggs. See below for more details on food.
We are located about a 20 minute walk from the Tanalian Falls + Beaver Loop trailheads, and the Tanalian Mountain trailhead. The Lake Clark National Park & Preserve is headquartered in our small town, and is about a 20 minute walk from the B&B.
We are located on a 70ft cliff overlooking glacier-fed Lake Clark and the Alaska Range. Walk out your front door and step into the beauty of rural Alaska.
Not connected to any road system, see why Port Alsworth is one of the last hidden gems of pristine wilderness in the US.
With heated floors and central heating, it is a cozy oasis after a long day of hiking and exploring. A few yards from your front door is our private cliff overlooking the lake. There is a fire pit and camping chairs that are available for you to enjoy! There is also a deck on the lake side of the house that you are welcome to lounge on as well. We want you to fully enjoy the magnificent view!
Guest access
Come and go as you please! The large driveway leads right up to your front door. We do not have dedicated transportation for guests.
Food
As mentioned above, we will stock your kitchen with breakfast foods. Given we live in rural Alaska, the foods available will change from week to week. You will need to make arrangements for other meals, whether that is through the local lodges in town (well in advance reservations strongly recommended as they do book up), the local food truck, or bringing your own groceries from Anchorage (nearest grocery store is 165 miles away!) Please plan accordingly! We are available for questions to help make sure your trip is smooth. There are expeditors in Anchorage who can pick up groceries for you, if that would be easier. Let us know if you’d like to be connected with one. When the salmon run hits, typically mid July through mid August, we will likely be able to provide you with a fresh salmon filet if you would like, as a way of saying thank you for being our guests!
Other things to note
-Wifi: While we do have the best/fastest wifi our rural village has to offer, we have limited bandwidth. As it is used up throughout the month, it often becomes very slow. We ask that our guests limit streaming and uploading, as this quickly eats up the bandwidth. Wifi is often turned off at night to conserve bandwidth. If you need to make a long distance call (as there is no cell service unless you have GCI as a carrier) we do have a shared landline that can be utilized if necessary.
-We have 2 kayaks that are our personal family kayaks. If they are available for use, you are welcome to use them!
-During your stay with us, you may hear footsteps or voices from time to time, as the rest of the house is occupied year round. We always stay mindful and respectful of our guests, but there will be times you may hear a little life happening on the other side of your walls!
-We are down to earth people. If you have questions or are looking for recommendations on actives around town, we are happy to answer!
-If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know as early as possible so we can plan the right breakfast for you!
