Great Place on Lake Clark!

Joel and his daughter Dana were wonderful hosts during my visit in Port Alsworth. They were fantastic from the moment I arrived till the day I left. Upon my arrival, Dana gave me guided tour of their little town, recommended hikes and places to go. Their place is very nice, clean, and quiet. I enjoyed the breakfasts and the peacefulness of their house. I felt very welcomed and am grateful for this wonderful experience. Thank you.

Quaint. Private. Lovely.

Alaska's Back Country Inn is a cozy little bed and breakfast. We found them to be excellent hosts and more than willing to provide us with expert information about the local fishing, hiking and hunting. One of the activities offered if one chooses is an exciting helicopter trip to go panning for gold or just to sight see. The mountains are breathtaking especially when experiencing them from a helicopter, snow capped and home to sure-footed dall sheep.
Of course, one can't forget the food... a true necessity before a rigorous day of excellent fishing or hiking or hunting, your choice!

About The Cabin

The space was created to feel like a cabin, except it was built into the lower level of our house! With your own private entrance, you will walk into your "cabinesque" home away from home, and you will feel like you're in a private log cabin! There is a small living room area, kitchenette/dining area, and 1 bedroom. Within the bedroom (which has a queen bed), there are two small lofts (each with a twin mattress) that are accessed via ladders. There is also a bathroom that includes a standup shower.

With heated floors and central heating, it is a cozy oasis after a long day of hiking and exploring. A few yards from your front door is our private cliff overlooking the lake. There is a fire pit and camping chairs that are available for you to enjoy! There is also a deck on the lake side of the house that you are welcome to lounge on as well. We want you to fully enjoy the magnificent view!

Guest access
Come and go as you please! The large driveway leads right up to your front door. We do not have dedicated transportation for guests.

Food
As mentioned above, we will stock your kitchen with breakfast foods. Given we live in rural Alaska, the foods available will change from week to week. You will need to make arrangements for other meals, whether that is through the local lodges in town (well in advance reservations strongly recommended as they do book up), the local food truck, or bringing your own groceries from Anchorage (nearest grocery store is 165 miles away!) Please plan accordingly! We are available for questions to help make sure your trip is smooth. There are expeditors in Anchorage who can pick up groceries for you, if that would be easier. Let us know if you’d like to be connected with one.  When the salmon run hits, typically mid July through mid August, we will likely be able to provide you with a fresh salmon filet if you would like, as a way of saying thank you for being our guests!

Other things to note
-Wifi: While we do have the best/fastest wifi our rural village has to offer, we have limited bandwidth. As it is used up throughout the month, it often becomes very slow. We ask that our guests limit streaming and uploading, as this quickly eats up the bandwidth. Wifi is often turned off at night to conserve bandwidth. If you need to make a long distance call (as there is no cell service unless you have GCI as a carrier) we do have a shared landline that can be utilized if necessary.

-We have 2 kayaks that are our personal family kayaks. If they are available for use, you are welcome to use them!

-During your stay with us, you may hear footsteps or voices from time to time, as the rest of the house is occupied year round. We always stay mindful and respectful of our guests, but there will be times you may hear a little life happening on the other side of your walls!

-We are down to earth people. If you have questions or are looking for recommendations on actives around town, we are happy to answer!

-If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know as early as possible so we can plan the right breakfast for you!

We book up quickly — check to see if your dates are available & secure your stay.
